Biography
CFO/CPA/CVA/CFE/JD Valuation: Since 2005 Bob has been involved in the valuation, sale, merger and acquisition of over a hundred businesses. Clients appreciate the real-world M&A transaction experience and practical knowledge of market participant behavior that Bob brings to business valuation and expert witness/damage calculation engagements.
Bob Bates is a JD, CPA, CVA and CFE with over 30 years of accounting experience as a Controller and CFO in various industries. He has been in several industries, including telecom, media, retail and financial services in addition to having consulting experience at startups in the software, technology and life sciences fields. He has run his own businesses, a publishing entity and a public accounting firm, in addition to working at KPMG. Bob was in a couple of pre-IPO situations and has worked in a growing public company also. In addition to strategic planning, budgeting and many typical CFO functions, he specializes in International accounting, software issues and obtaining financing.
CFO/CPA/CVA/CFE/JD Valuation: Affiliate and other companies – HP Accounting works with and refers to many US and European CPA firms, CFO consulting firms, law offices and Financial Planning organizations in order to offer a complete Accounting/Finance solution that also includes some Human Resources and Legal aspects.
He now uses these skills in his expert witness damage calculation engagements.
Public company CFO roles:
Mr. Bates was the CFO of several public companies and has performed the following tasks for them:
- Completed due diligence accounting/reporting for 12 acquisitions, including performing valuations and dealing with FAS 142
- Handled accounting for complex debt instruments including warrants, beneficial conversion feature and other derivative issues
- Responsible for SEC reporting: 10Q’s and 10K’s
CFE Work:
Mr. Bates discovered a large embezzlement of nearly $300,000 through use of forensics. He now uses this skill in his expert witness damage calculation engagements.
